Product Description

Fascinating Carnivore: The Venus Fly Trap is one of nature's most unique and captivating plants, native to the wetlands of the East Coast of the United States. Unique Foliage: Features hinged, jaw-like leaves that are specialized to capture its own nutrients from invertebrates as part of its natural lifecycle in nutrient-poor soils. Striking Appearance: A beautiful and unusual addition to any indoor garden or terrarium. Sunlight: Requires at least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day. A sunny windowsill is ideal. Water: Use only distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water. Keep the soil consistently moist by sitting the pot in a tray of water (the tray method). Never use tap water. Soil: Plant in a mixture of peat moss and perlite or sand; do not use standard potting soil as the nutrients will harm the plant. Dormancy: The plant requires a 3-5 month dormancy period in winter, usually by keeping it at temperatures between 35-50°F (2-10°C). Measurements are approximate.

    Algae soaked moss

Posted by Hazel Koski on Apr 19th 2021

Very bad situation for this flytrap. It didn't arrive in dormancy, (it's mid spring so I'm not surprised.) Its medium was deeply overfertilized, and thick with algae. I will not buy carnivorous plants here again. They require low-tds water and the TDS I detected from this pot is almost sabotage. The roots are burned and even though I repotted it immediately, I don't think it's gonna make it.
