Product Description

Alocasia ‘Flying Squid’ only grows to around 1 foot at its mature height! It is one of the smallest Alocasias and one of the most unique, with squid-like petioles and extremely tiny leaves at the end of each petiole. Alocasia are stunning members of the Elephant Ear family. It makes a wonderful addition to any tropical landscape and home. They may be container grown indoors or out, provided they have bright, but not direct sunlight. They grow to 8 - 12 inches tall and produce new shoots periodically, creating a dense cluster in no time. A 20-20-20 soluble is the best fertilizer for them, once per month. As with all elephant ears, they do not take well to cold weather and may die back to the soil line, but will come right back as soon as the temperature warms. If ground freezing in your area is common, we suggest keeping them in containers, in-ground and removing them when an overnight freeze is imminent. They do not like to dry out or be too wet, keep evenly moist, not wet or dry! Alocasia will live indefinitely in containers if proper care is given and is an excellent indoor plant!

TINY, TINY little plants packed carelessly. Not like the pictures in the least. Arrived with a few scraggly leaves poking out. Seller does not care. Trash plants, trash seller. Buyer beware!

TINY, TINY little plants, nothing at all like the pictures. There are a few little scraggly leaves poking out of the potting medium and even though they were very poorly packed, the leaves weren’t damaged by that, they were barely there to begin with. Complete rip off. Seller does not care. Buyer beware.

    Shipping quality

I was a little hesitant to order plants in the mail during winter and with postal delays, but once again, everything was packed so carefully and arrived in great condition, even after a four-day delay in transit! This is why I’ve been shopping from Hirt’s for years.
