    Huge perfect blooms

The blooms almost look fake they’re so perfect. I’m in south Louisiana- hot and HUMID, so clematis aren’t known to do very well here. I planted Miss Bateman 3 years ago, and she was nothing but a brown crispy string with sometimes crunchy brown and sometimes half flimsy green half crunchy brown leaves. And when she had leaves, she had 10 at the most. I stayed patient, kept picking off the crunchy leaves, and fertilized her with osmocote and black cow twice a year. This year, the 3rd year, I gave her some alfalfa in the early spring with the black cow and liquid fertilizer and she took off. She is strutting her stuff. So lovely! There is definitely truth to the saying “1st year they sleep, second year they creep, third year they leap” when it comes to climbing roses and clematis. Well.... any blooming vines, actually. Anyhow, I can’t wait to see what all the clematis I put in the ground last year do in the next 2 years. I planted 8 last year and 3 this year. I’m so excited! Y’all have the best prices on clematis on the internet. Even though they arrive looking pitiful, anyone who gardens can tell they are just coming up from overwintering and that they are healthy. The root systems are VERY establisher for 4” pots. They aren’t wimpy sickly plants. They have been cut back as clematis should be for shipping. Don’t let the lack of foliage up top fool you. It’s what is down below in the soil that matters. ;)
