It is called both a squash and gourd. At maturity it grows into a long hard-shelled gourd on a long, trailing vine. It is normally harvested when 8-12" long, and it is used like regular summer squash. Enjoy baked, grilled, raw, frozen, and pickled. It can also be dried as a gourd.
