Hosta are among the most popular of perennials for shady areas, with literally hundreds of varieties now readily available. Plants form a sturdy mound of foliage, topped with lily-like blooms. This is a midsized selection with leaves emerging in spring with lovely buttery-yellow centres that soon darken to green with smooth, pure-white margins. In summer, there is a dramatic effect, when on the same plant, there are new yellow leaves as well as the more mature green ones. Pale lavender flowers appear midsummer and may attract hummingbirds. Suitable for planting in mixed containers and tubs. Hosta go completely dormant in the fall, and the dying foliage can be removed any time mid-spring. Easily divided in either spring or fall, but plants may also be left alone for years. A Sport of ‘Sea Fire’.
