Product Description

We cannot ship citrus to; American Samoa, Arizona, California, Florida, Guam, Hawaii, Louisiana, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, Texas, Virgin Islands as per USDA Regulations. Aromatic kaffir limes (Citrus hystrix), with their glossy foliage and wrinkled fruits, give many Thai, Indonesian and Cambodian dishes their delicious flavor. The young leaves can be finely shredded for salads, while mature leaves are torn or tossed whole into stir fries, curries, soups and more. From zest to juice, and leaves to rinds, kaffirs add a lemony-spicy taste. While it's possible to find fresh kaffir limes or dried leaves for sale, it’s fun to grow your own dwarf tree. These members of the citrus family are sometimes sold as Thai or kieffer limes and known botanically as Citrus hystrix. Dwarf kaffirs, which can grow to 5 feet, will perish in freezing weather. But even if you live where the winters are cold, you can enjoy your tree indoors if you provide the right growing conditions. Kaffirs need 8 to 12 hours of full sun each day. 5 to 6 hours of direct sun a day (a south or southwest window is ideal), and supplement that with full spectrum or fluorescent plant lights will also work. (Plants need regular periods of light and darkness, however, so don’t run the lights all the time.) If your tree is a 1-year-old plant, start it out in a 6- to 9-inch container. Two to 3-year-old trees can go into 12- to 14-inch pots. Use a container with drainage holes, or drill some in the bottom, and choose a potting mix that drains easily. If you can’t find a potting mix made for citrus, use an outdoor mix rather than ordinary garden soil or one formulated for houseplants. Houseplant mixes hold water and keep citrus roots too wet. Some gardeners prefer to make their own mix by combining two parts of cedar shavings to one part compost and one part sand. Give your kaffir lime a spot with good air circulation, but avoid drafts from heating and cooling vents.

Plant Care
How will my plant arrive & do I need to repot?

We ship our plants via USPS, so check your mailbox if it is a smaller item.

To ensure your plant stays healthy and happy, we ship it in its original nursery pot—just as it was growing in our greenhouse. There’s no need to repot right away.

We recommend letting your plant acclimate to its new environment after the journey. Give it a few days in a cozy spot with the right light and water, and let it settle in before making any changes. This helps reduce transplant shock and gives your plant the best start in its new home!

Will my plant look like the pictures online?

Yes! The photos with the white background are actual images of the plants we grow and ship.

Keep in mind:

  • If you’re ordering a plant in a 2.5" pot, it’s a starter plant. That means it will be smaller in size and will need time to establish roots and grow before reaching maturity.
  • All plants are healthy and ready to thrive with a little time and care!
Is my plant in stock?

To see if a specific plant is available, head to our website and use the search bar (look for the magnifying glass in the top right corner).

Type the name of the plant you’re looking for.

Click on the product listing to view the details.

If the plant shows up in the search, it’s available! Under “Currently Available,” you’ll see exactly how many we have in stock.

If the plant doesn’t appear, it’s currently out of stock.

We receive new shipments regularly, so feel free to check back often—your favorite plant might be back sooner than you think!

Why does my perennial look sad?

If you received a perennial during the winter months, it may arrive looking brown, bare, or even lifeless. That’s completely normal—it’s simply dormant, not dead. Many perennials go into a natural resting phase during colder months to conserve energy for the growing season ahead.

What should you do?

Keep the plant in a cool, dry place with some light.

Water lightly every 3 weeks—just enough to keep the soil from completely drying out. Avoid soggy soil or overwatering.

Once warmer weather returns, gradually introduce the plant to sunlight and plant it outdoors after the last chance of frost has passed.

Your plant may look quiet now, but with a little patience, it will bounce back beautifully in spring!

Support & Returns
Can I add to my existing order?

Unfortunately, we’re not able to add items to an order once it’s placed because we don’t keep credit card info for your security.

My plant isn't looking too hot, what do I do?

We stand behind the quality of our plants and want you to be happy!

It’s normal for live plants to show some stress after shipping. We recommend pruning off any damaged foliage to help your plant focus its energy on fresh, healthy growth.

If your plant’s condition is worse than minor shipping stress, please email us at greenhousematt@gmail.com with a photo and your order number. We’ll be happy to replace or refund your purchase.

I need to cancel my order. What should I do?

Do you offer garden design help?

While we’re happy to share advice and gardening tips, we don’t offer formal garden design services.

If time allows, we’ll gladly suggest plants that work well in your conditions. However, due to the high volume of emails, we can’t provide personalized design consultations for every request.

    Kaffir lime tree

My tree arrived 2 days after I placed the order, which is very fast. However, the tree is smaller than I expected, for the fruit bearing size tree, a little bit taller than a 16oz bottle water. 3 of the leaves on the main trunk are turning brown and dry, I’m not sure what happens, but other than that, everything else appears to be healthy. I can’t wait to see it grow bigger.

I ordered this plant along with 3 Clematis plants. I received them yesterday, which was a nice surprise , especially since Isaiah hit Long Island, NY and left us without power. I am happy with my plant. I gave it 4 stars because 3 leaves on the top part of the stem have holes in them. Looks like an insect got to them before I got to it. I am going to plant this in a container and bring it inside for winter. For now, it will enjoy a NY summer.
