Product Description

Indigo Treat fruits are high in flavor. The flavor of black currants is more pronounced, with a strong aromatic sweetness of black raspberries and blueberries. The light blue fruits are longer and flatter than other cultivars, and are attractive for the fresh markets. This is one cultivar that will definitely melt in your mouth. The fruits have excellent firmness with a stem scar that is small and dry, a good attribute for mechanical harvesting and the fresh markets. The plants have medium to high vigor growing to 5.5 feet tall, with average to high yields. HASKAP is the Japanese name for Lonicera caerulea. It has also been called ‘Blue Honeysuckle’, ‘Honeyberry’, Edible Honeysuckle’ and ‘Sweet Berry Honeysuckle’, suggesting that the berries are sweet. But, in fact, they carry a hint of tartness and the aroma of other fruits, such as black currents, raspberries and blueberries. Several qualities mark them as truly unusual. They have the shape and color of tiny plums and, like them, will hold up for several weeks after harvest. In juices, jams and pastries, the indigo transforms into the deepest purple. Haskaps thrive in cold weather; their attractive yellow blossoms open in the still frigid days of earliest spring. With a global shape and a height of 5’ at maturity, they lend themselves to easy handpicking, which begins in mid-summer. Produces large crops of elongated blueberry-like fruits 1-2 years after planting. Indigo Treat Haskap (Honeyberry)s are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional pollinator will drastically increase the size of your crop. Lonicera edulis kamtschatica 'Indigo Treat'
