Verbena x hybrida Shades of Liberty
Half Hardy Annual
Position: Full sun
Height: 10 inches
Germination: Experience Useful
Ideal for: Border
Verbena 'Shades of Liberty' flower seed is a very patriotic mixture of red, white and blue, ideal for creating a carpet of color in borders or containers. Free-flowering dwarf, compact plants will bloom throughout the summer with outstanding weather and mildew resistance.
Height: 6-10 inches.
Sowing time: Sow 8-10 weeks before last frost
Sow seed onto the surface of moist seed sowing mix and lightly cover the seed with a sprinkling of vermiculite or sowing mix. Place in a propagator or warm place, and keep at a constant temperature of between 24-27C (75-80F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Germination will usually take 14 to 21 days. Keep the seed sowing mix on the dry side at all times, and water lightly as seedlings emerge. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays.
Gradually acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12 inches) apart, or transplant into containers . For best results, provide any ordinary, well-drained soil in full sun.
