Product Description

A hardy perennial, chamomile has aromatic, threadlike leaves that fill the air with a pleasing apple-pineapple scent. White, daisylike blooms appear in summer. The cultivar 'Treneague' is valued because it does not flower, making an attractive lawn. 'Flore Pleno' has double flowers showier than those of the species. Noteworthy characteristics: Spreads unevenly as a groundcover by self-sowing. Young leaves and flowers can be gathered to make a calming tea, both fresh and dried. The leaves can be used in potpourri. Care: Thrives in moist, rich soil and grows to 12 inches tall. Cut back regularly to encourage dense, compact growth. Hardy in zones 5-9. The plant is used to flavor foods, in tisanes, perfumes, and cosmetics. It is used to make a rinse for blonde hair, and is popular in aromatherapy; its practitioners believe it to be a calming agent to reduce stress and aid in sleep.
