Lavandula angustifolia (English/Common lavender), : An indispensable member of the herb family, used for perfumes and potpourri, its ornamental, compact habit along with gray-green scented foliage make it a welcome addition to the perennial border. It is also known as true or common lavender. It thrives in zones 5 through 8 or 9, making it one of the hardiest lavender species.
This plant requires perfectly drained soil, preferably on the dry side, and full sun. English lavender does not like wet feet and will die out in heavy clays. It is easily transplanted and prefers neutral to alkaline soils. Propagate by seed, division or stem cutting.
