Product Description

This slender vine with pointed, heart-shaped leaves grows very rapidly. Masses of small white or rose-pink flowers bloom in late summer and autumn. A rapidly growing climber that holds on by tendrils, it will quickly cover a trellis or similar structure. Coral vine is native to Mexico and is grown in the southeast and Gulf regions of the United States. In the mildest regions, it is a perennial. In colder regions, it can be grown outside in the summer and moved indoors during the winter. It can also simply be grown as an annual in colder regions. Needs full sun for best bloom. This adaptable vine will grow in almost any soil. Tolerates drought. Hardiness: USDA Zones 9-10. The tops of this tropical plant are killed back by freezes but will quickly recover from the roots. Propagation: Seeds. Volunteer plants can be transplanted from established plantings. Use as a landscape plant. It's perfect for covering fences or climbing trellises with a splash of bright color. This vine does well in urban plantings because it tolerates air pollution, restricted space, inadequate sunshine and poor soil. A rampant grower, it may need periodic grooming when planted in small spaces. This vine is beautiful and easy to grow. Attracts rabbles of butterflies. Proper name: Antigonon leptopus.
