Product Description

The genus Beesia is in the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae) and is a botanical cousin of aquilegia, helleborus, and clematis. The genus was introduced to western gardening in 1996 when it was brought back to the US by famed plant explorer Dan Hinkley. Beesia contains just two species, Beesia calthifolia and Beesia deltophylla which are both native to China. Beesia are evergreen groundcover plants, with shiny, heart-shaped, leathery leaves and tall spikes of tiny white flowers. There are very few plants for deep shade and beesia is one of them, although it would actually prefer part-shade. Beesia looks best when grown in a moist (but not soggy) soil. Other than that, it is fuss-free. Try combining beesia with helleborus, hosta, and ferns in a woodland garden.
